Dear Diary,

July 15, 2023

It has been quite some time since I last poured my thoughts onto these pages. Today, I feel a pressing need to write about a matter that has been a cause of concern for many in our beloved city, Delhi. The Yamuna River, a lifeline for us, has been gradually dwindling in its water level, and the situation has become dire.

The Yamuna River holds a special place in the hearts of millions of people residing in Delhi. Its waters have witnessed our joys, our sorrows, and have provided sustenance for generations. But lately, the river has been diminishing, with its waters receding day by day. The scarcity of rain in recent months has exacerbated this issue, leaving the Yamuna alarmingly dry.

Today, there was a glimmer of hope amidst this growing worry. News reached us that the Indian Navy had stepped in to carry out desilting work at ITO, a vital area along the riverbank. Their intervention was a beacon of hope, as they pledged to remove the accumulated silt and debris, thereby increasing the river’s capacity to hold water.

The Indian Navy’s involvement in this endeavor gives us solace, as it showcases the united efforts of our country to combat such environmental challenges. Witnessing the naval personnel in action was an awe-inspiring sight. Men and women in their distinctive white uniforms worked tirelessly, digging, dredging, and clearing the riverbed.

It is heartening to know that our nation recognizes the importance of the Yamuna River and the urgency to preserve it. Despite the constant bustle of everyday life, people have come together to witness and support the Navy’s efforts. I joined the throngs of onlookers, hoping to catch a glimpse of the work being done and to feel a part of this collective undertaking.

As I stood there, the emotions within me were a mix of gratitude and concern. Gratitude for the Indian Navy’s dedication and commitment to this cause, and concern for the state of our environment that has led us to this situation. It is a stark reminder that we must all take responsibility for our actions and work towards sustainable practices.

In these challenging times, the Yamuna River’s dwindling water level is just one of many issues we face. But it is a poignant reminder of the fragile nature of our ecosystem and the consequences of neglect. We must not turn a blind eye, for the health of our rivers reflects the health of our nation.

As I conclude this entry, I find solace in the fact that the Indian Navy’s efforts are a symbol of hope and resilience. They inspire us to strive for a better tomorrow, where we can cherish the Yamuna River and ensure its abundance for generations to come.

Until next time, dear diary.

Yours,
Mr Y
